There are a growing number of congregations in our community who recognize that their faith calls them to respect and protect all of Creation. The general term used to describe this movement is Care for Creation or Creation Care Congregations.
Many denomiations have coined their own terms to describe their Creation Care efforts. Such terms as "Eco-Justice", "Green Sanctuary", and others are being used. All are greatly welcomed and appreciated.
There is no "cookie cutter" approach for what Creation Care Congregations are doing. Each congregation draws upon its own unique membership, history and faith tradition. This leads to a wonderful mix of activities, programs and organizational structures.
The Purpose of This Page is to:
- Encourage you to answer the call to protect Creation.
- Help you start a "green team".
- Expand your "greening" efforts.
One way we can help you is by sharing the lessons learned by Green Teams already formed. The congregaions below have formed Green Teams and have graciously allowed us to list them here. Furthermore many have completed a survey form that should be of great interest to anyone visiting this web site. Follow any of the hyperlinked names to read, in PDF format, that congregation's survey. An unhyperlinked congregations mean they are in the process of completing and returning the survey.
Such information as, how they got started, what worked and what didn't work and a discription of their activities are in the survey. Of great value to many will be contact information so you can communicate directly with these Green Team leaders We know that you wil be respectful of the information and use it only for the purpose for which it was shared.
If a Green Team provided documents of their own creation or those that were of assistance to them, a link is provided to it as well.
This is a growing list, Congregations will be added with their approval, as we learn of them.
